Learning to Learn

Getting a sustainable edge

In today's business world the only source of business advantage that's lasting is to learn faster than the competition. It's the basis of innovation - whether its aimed at creating new products or introducing new ways of working.

Most businesses find it difficult to manage change because they find it hard to spend the time needed to learn and embed the new skills needed to get the edge on their competitors.

The only way to do this is to embed it into your business planning.

We can help you create innovative ways of training your staff to deal with new issues. How to approach customers better for instance.

  • We've worked with PCWorld and O2 to help them qualify and sell better to small businesses.
  • We've worked with a major airline to help them recognised personality traits in customers.
  • We've helped builders improve internal branding and run awaydays for publishing companies.
  • And we've trained hundreds of people how to improve their online marketing.

More recently we've been using Senge's Learning Organisation methods to coach small businesses via our work as a Growth Accelerator coach.

Let's see what we can do for you.

The learning organisation - making it practical.

learning organisation diagram

Peter Senge in his seminal work, the fifth discipline identifies 5 components of a learning organisation as set out in the diagram above.

All of them need to be present. An effective business needs to unify head and heart, results and pattern, left and right brain activity. The leader has to walk the talk and conceptualise and explain her ideas - and propagate these activities as best they can in their organisations.

A key principle of effective delivery is systems thinking - generally we're quite poor at that in the UK. If people understand the POINT of the systems they work in and how they relate to company's purpose this becomes the basis of developing a shared vision. Continuous attention and action to these areas delivers the company's ability to learn as a team, to innovate and to transform the organisation and the people that work in it.

Acquiring and developing skills in line with the company's purpose makes the company responsive and lets it develop new products, systems and ways of engaging customers quicker than the competition.

This stakes out a real, first mover's advantage on the next wave of opportunity. Growing a company means getting on to successive waves faster than the competition.
